Question from: Elaine
(2/09/05)
Do you guys remeber playing at Chubby's
Inn in Allentown, PA? I use to be the waitress who ran the backroom
and I always thought you guys were great. Thanks for putting out
your first album on CD, can't find anyone to transfer album to CD
for me, so thanks for making it easy for me.
GREGG: I remember Chubby's-it was a cool
little bar down the street from the Airport Music Hall. We had some
great times there, and the staff always treated us well. Chubby's
was one of the first clubs we played where we played all original
songs. Before that we played only covers at Chubby's. We had great
times there, before, during and after the shows.

Question from: Chuck G., Allentown,
PA
(5/29/03)
I would like to know who all your favorite
bands and influences are .Also if all of you could be in your dream
band who would the rest of the members be,dead or alive.
MIKE: As far as my fave bands. That's
kinda hard to narrow down. I like so many different types of music,
rock, dance, reggae, oldies. Here's the best I could do for now:
KISS, Motley Crue, DLR, The Scream, SRV, Circle of Fear, The TRAMMPS
to name a few.
And as far as my influences: Peter Criss of KISS was my biggest
influence when I started playing the drums. But now there's so many
awesome skin bashers that it's hard to just pick one. If I could
be the drummer in my dream band......KISS WITH MAKE UP, DESTROYER
TOUR!
And to put a band together of my faves and I would be the drummer,
that's really tuff. I really can't answer that one cause I would
have such a variety of players I'm not sure what the music would
sound like.
LUIS: Well lets see, I like KISS, QUEEN,
THIN LIZZY, FOREIGNER, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, LED ZEPP, UFO, JUDAS PRIEST,
ACDC, 80S BANDS TRIUMPH, DIO,RATT, MR. BIG, WHITE SNAKE, KIXS, THE
CULT...........
WOW DREAM BAND! FIRST ON GUITARS,Brian MAY (QUEEN).GARY
MOORE(THIN LIZZY) ON BASS PHIL LYNOTT (THIN LIZZY)ON DRUMS JOHN
BONHAM (LED ZEPP).back up singers coverdale and mercury. How's THAT!
AND LUIS SINGING LEAD.
WEAKLEY: Some
Favorite Bands: Bowie,Buzzcocks, Genisis, Rob
Zombie, Annie Lennox, The Cult, Stones, Bob Marley, Alice Cooper,
The Vines
etc etc etc
Dream Band: Already playing in it now.
GREGG: Influences: Aerosmith, Kiss, Stones,
Cheap Trick, AC/DC, Ramones,
Slade, early motown, Steppenwolf, Dead End Kids.... Favorite bands:
Bands
previously mentioned plus: Foo Fighters, STP, Nickelback, Sweet,
Nirvana,
Pearl Jam, Sex Pistols, NY Dolls, Guns'n'Roses, Buck Cherry, Beach
Boys,
Beatles, Elvis, Boston, Chicago, Cream, Foghat, Motley Crue (I'm
sure I
missed a few!)....
Dream band-to have the opportunity to play with Jimi Hendrix, Keith
Moon,
John Bonham, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, John Entwistle, Pete Townshend,
Steven Tyler, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott, Angus & Malcolm Young,
Mic & Keith of
the Stones, MK of Chumbi.
I can't think of a dream band, but I can think of people I would
love to jam
with...
Question from: Todd Colegrove
(4/17/03)
1) Did you guys get sick of putting on the
rags and makeup...It was always interesting watching you guys put
it all together in the basement of the Pine Grove. ( I will admit
though...I loved that look!) Hey Dave, Gregg and Louis...(I never
knew Mike or Rob)...It's been a long time!
LUIS: No I didn't get sick of the rags. Its
just well we needed a new look and it
took close to two hours do get ready for the shows. By the way I
love the
pine grove. I miss it very much. The club was wild, the girls were
wild, and the
fans were crazy! We tried are new music there and always got great
responses.Songs like moon is full/lock up your daughters/racin/sleeze
patrol/keep on rockin....and more.Todd i hope to see you soon. By
the way I still have my rags there in my attic. Wonder how much
they are worth on ebay?
2) On the Teeze album
there's the classic bit after the song "Going Away" where
everybody's laughing and Luis is saying "Sorry" and Brian
is saying something like "Thats it...Thats it"...and then
it sounds like a door slamming shut.
What was the story behind that?
Gregg: Are you sure Lui's saying sorry? The reason why I
said that is
because I thought I was the one who farted in the studio while we
were doing
backups, which would make me saying "sorry".... Maybe
it was Lui who farted
in the studio, I'm not sure. Ask Dave. Lui's got some awful farts!!
Question from: Charlie Bagarozza
(3/28/03)
1) Whatever happened to your yellow
school bus from the old days?
WEAKLEY: We had a total of
3 busses. The first one "151"lasted a while. The second
one was "Blue Bird" (I think.) and the 3rd one we bought
was from a church and had "Church of the Nazarene" painted
on both sides. We took the busses everywhere we played. When one
would die, we would go get another. We had 5 or 6 rows of seats
that we kept to sleep in and we gutted the rest and boarded up the
windows on each one. We built a wall after the seats and stored
all of our gear there. We had a ton of gear. A huge light show and
a powerful pa system. We ate, slept, partied and fought in those
busses. They were like a safe haven for us. Lots of stories in there.
Once we started to get popular and into full time playing we bought
a van too and the band traveled in the van and the crew traveled
in the bus. The band was required to do interviews or record store
promotions and the crew had to set up the show so, we had to buy
the van. We chose never to alter the paint on them because they
were loaded with everything we owned and if anything were ever stolen
it would have been horrible. Tom Friel was our soundman and main
driver but, over the years everyone of us learned to drive the bus.
The busses were sold to a guy who owns a garage in Chalfont Pa.
At least one of them was anyway. We sold our gear too and sub contract
our lights and sound to this day. So many stories in those busses.
GREGG: We had some CRAZY times on those buses!
2) Who came up with name SMC
for your indie release?
GREGG: An early associate of
the band used to get drunk and say "Suck my C*CK!!", which
eventually became our slogan, "SMC". I thought it was
a good idea to call the record company SMC as a way of telling the
major record companies to "Suck my c*ck
3) Why did the TEEZE sound change
so drastically when you evolved into ROUGHHOUSE?
WEAKLEY: Our sound was always changing . Live there is no
difference in sound. Its raw. On record I have to agree. The RH
record lost its balls in the production. Max was a great producer
but our sound deserved to be raw and balls out. He mixed it as well
and we didn't have time to keep re-mixing because our manager (and
downfall of the band) said we had a deadline to release it. We weren't
happy with the mix but loved the songs and we prayed that the songs
would be strong enough to overshadow the production. That whole time
in our lives was 100 miles an hour and we followed the wrong people.
Our next release will be raw and balls out. I guarantee it.
MIKE: You have to remember, we DO NOT sound anything like
the RH album. That was what the record company and our producer
wanted us to sound like. Again, if it was up to us, it would've
been heavier w/ more drive.
4) Refresh my memory as to why the name
changed from TEEZE to Roughhouse.
Was it because of an R&B group of the same name?
WEAKLEY: Yes.....Same label too.
Epic/CBS
MIKE: Yeah, you're kinda right. There was another band on
Epic/CBS that was called, "Tease". I think they were,
like jazz, r&b(?). They had an album (their 3rd) due out the
same time as us and CBS didn't want to have to explain the difference...(we
were the white TEEZE, they were the black Tease)..etc.
So they asked (told) us we had to change our name. THAT SUCKED!!!!
Question from: Tony
(3/20/03)
You guys are great and should have been huge.
Question. If you could go back in time would you guy's have done
things differently knowing hindsight is 20/20? Kept the Teeze name?
Different label? Different image? Would be interesting to hear your
guy's perspective on it.
MIKE: Doing things differently...........OH
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as keeping the TEEZE name, YES, absolutely we would have
kept it! Remember, it wasn't our idea for the name change. Don't
get me wrong, we love the name ROUGHHOUSE but it's one of those
things that we didn't really have any control over. Maybe if we
would've fought w/ the label alittle and let them know how important
the name meant to us (and our fans), it might've helped. But, remember,
we were away recording the album when all this went down. Our concerns
at the time were w/ the recording. That was just another wrench
thrown at us.
As far as a different label, again, at the time, CBS/Columbia was
very high on us and we thought we were in the perfect situation
w/ how we got signed (Tommy Mottola) and everything. We never thought
they were just gonna throw us to the dogs. We had other offers from
other labels but like I said, CBS/Columbia was very on w/ us.
Of course if we knew how we were gonna be treated (right before
and even after the album came out) we would've probably looked else
where. We really got the shaft form CBS.
A different image, well that was our decision to change our look
when we came back out as TEEZE in '86. The record company had nothing
to do w/ it. It's like it was another chapter in the history of
TEEZE. 2 players were gone and 2 replaced them. And besides, we
weren't being taking seriously by the record industry w/ all the
rags and make-up. So we thought the time was right to make a change
in our image if we were serious about getting a record deal. And
for what it's worth, it worked. --- Hope that answers your questions,
GREGG: If I could go back in time- I would have gotten the
Teeze name copyright immediately, but when you are 17 years old,
you have poo-tang on your mind, and playing the next gig. The last
thing you think about is business! All kinds of screwed-up things
happen in life. I've seen many of my idols and close friends bite
the dust way before their time, some of these guys were
incredibly talented. I'm just happy I didn't drink or do drugs during
that period, and most of all, that I'm living a happy life! Think
about the bands that were really huge-sold millions of records,
were on top of the world, but aren't doing anything now! I know
I went through a lot of emotional head crap when the band split
up, (and we were never as big as some of those bands), but I got
it back together. I was always one of those guys who liked to look
ahead and never look back. I'm just glad that we all met up at Dave's
birthday party and enjoyed each other's company so much that we
decided to play together again! My goal now is to try to make every
Roughhouse show as special as possible, cause you never know how
long you have on this earth...
LUIS: Kept the name...well it was hard finding
out we had to change our name due to the fact that another band
with CBS had it .even though we were teeze before them..but in way
i like the change because it gave us a meaner-cooler name. I think
anyway, going with a different label might have been a better choice
due to the fact that CBS was back then a very bad label to get any
real help or time from there management when the band needed them.
Our manager had his head always up his ass. He was the biggest downfall
for us. He worked for champion entertainment. Who at that time was
run by Tommy Mottola, back then CBS WAS A VERY F**KED UP LABEL TO
WORK WITH!
Image not sure if we had any real one image. We were
like most bands back then, but on stage we were one of the best
show bands to see in the phila/ny/nj/da/ma area. I was very proud
of that we tried very hard to give everything we hand at shows.
Even if it meant busting ourselves to do
it..we live to play and loved our fans. We tried never to come off
fat headed. We knew who supported us. It was the fans and close
friends. We will always be grateful for that. I hope someday more
people give us a chance to hear some of our new music that never
was released--and hope those songs see the light of day. Thanks
and hope to see you soon.
